Description
This course is sold in two parts, the resuscitation and retrieval components can be split!
Neonatal Resuscitation is part 1 of the course and is a prerequisite for the retrieval component, though these can be booked separately to meet the individual needs of the student.
What we cover Part 1 – Resus (12 Clinical and 1 Ethics point – HPCSA)
- The unique neonate
- The premature neonate
- Patient assessment approach for neonates
- Basic to advanced resuscitation in the delivery room, NICU and in the prehospital space
- Latest updates from ILCOR are used to guide the resuscitation approach
- Accredited for 13 CPD points including 1 ethics if completed as a stand-alone course
What we cover Part 2: Retrieval (16 Clinical and 1 Ethics point – HPCSA)
- Moving sick neonates – ground and air transport, and the stressors of transport
- Airway and Ventilation approach (including NCPAP and set up)
- Packaging and temperature managemen
- Introduction to the basic medications and infusion management in the retrieval environment
Total 2-day course is accredited for 28 CPD points and 2 Ethics points (total 30) must be completed with day 1- Resus
We use various teaching methods in this course, including table-top simulation, discussions, group interactions and planning exercises, skill stations and simulations to ensure that each student leaves the course with the required knowledge and skills to assess, manage and care for the sick neonate wherever they work.
